The world as we know it, even as recent as 2-3 years ago has fundamentally changed. Children have had to undergo major changes and adjustments through the pandemic that in some instances can potentially affect them for a lifetime. Take in account the reading level disparity particularly in lower socioeconomic communities. From a developmental perspective, imagine what this does to a child, emotionally, socially and psychologically.
When we’re talking about acceptance and respect in children we’re talking about the first step in learning to love our differences as well as understanding and appreciating what others bring to our lives. At the heart of respect is caring. In simple words, respect is caring how words and actions may impact others. Respect can often be a big concept to grasp and has two parts:
🧒👧👦 1) having respect for someone because of how their actions impact others and
🧒👧👦 2) showing respect by changing your actions to be sure you don’t have a negative impact.
What better time than now to instill these values in order to help make this world a better place!
